I’m Ethan Gutierrez. I am a software developer and entrepreneur based in the Bay Area.

I’ve loved building and designing things since I was a kid. I started hands-on with Legos, then transitioned into technology, where I soon realized how powerful it was and fell in love with it. At the age of 16, I made websites for local businesses and friends, and challenged myself with online coding competitions. These days, I find myself developing complex full stack applications, aiming to make a positive impact on the world through technology.

A project I am particularly proud of is theCoderSchool Typer, a typing tool I created to help students improve their typing skills. One day, I was working on an open-source initiative called MonkeyType. I was contributing to features such as their leaderboard and typing data. During this time, I was tutoring at theCoderSchool and saw students typing with their two pointer fingers. I realized that their was a need for a typing tool that was engaging and fun for students. I pitched the idea of a typing tool to theCoderSchool and they loved it. I spent the next month developing the test, including features such as customizable themes, sounds, and a leaderboard for friendly competition with other students. Within half a year, we had over 100 students using the tool with 7000+ tests completed. Additionally, between these students, there was a 25% increase in words per minute on average. theCoderSchool Typer is a project that I am very proud of because it has made a positive impact on students and contributed to the next generation of students. Ultimately, technology is a tool that I leverage to make a positive impact on the world and this project is my testament to that.

As a young 21 year old, I have a lot of ambition and drive to make a positive impact on the world. I intend to spend the next few years finding a company that I can grow with and contribute to their mission. I am also working on Blendify, my own startup that I am building to help grow businesses. I have already worked on so many fun project with others and I love collaborating with others to help them build their ideas and dreams. I am excited to see what the future holds.

Outside of work, I enjoy surfing, mixed martial arts, and traveling. Some cool things I have done the past few years is visit Yosemite, learn piano, and go to a few hackathons. In the near future, I plan to visit more national parks, take a Muay Thai amateur fight, and go surfing in Hawaii.
